I have started traveling to Southeast Kansas to do shoots because I have family down there. This last trip “home” my step-sister wanted to do some pictures in her volleyball outfit. This is her first year in high school and I was thrilled to be able to help her remember it.

I wanted to check out a few locations in Pittsburg, Ks too, so after the volleyball shoot we changed and headed to town. I completely spaced the car show that was being held on the main street in town so this forced us to venture and find new locations that I hadn’t thought about using. We found some awesome locations that I can’t wait to use again!

I am so glad this song was suggested to me because the first chorus first perfectly with a conversation Caleb and Jessica had on the shoot. Enjoy!

I traveled to Lamar, Missouri two weekends ago to do a mentor session with Jessica Edwards Photography. I am so happy I choose to do this. The day started out with a early morning senior session with Caleb. I am by far not a morning person, but I got my sugar free red bull, grab my equipment, and headed out with Jessica. The session started out at a local park with Caleb and a beautiful Chevy Nova. Being that it was so early in the morning, we had great fog to work with. It gave the shots a very vintage feel. During this part of the session I most observed Jessica to see how she interacted with her clients and ran her shoots. I did, however, get a few shots of my own.

I really enjoyed seeing Jessica’s perspective of certain shots. For this next shot, I would have probably done the “mirror” shot one of the side mirrors, but I was happy to try it from a different angle. I think the shot came out great, and she showed me how to “bounce” the flash in different directions to get different lighting on Caleb’s face in the mirror.

Next, we ventured out to some farm land to finish up the outdoor portion of Caleb’s shoot. This place had so much to offer. Again, I wanted to observe but still got off a few shots. The sun was coming out and the fog was slowly fading so it was a perfect opportunity to discuss lighting. It was, also, nice to be able to compare shots of the exact same pose and discuss why they looked different. I am a visual learner so that was awesome for me to be able to do.

After we finished with Caleb’s outdoor shoot we headed to the studio for his indoor session. During and after we discussed so many things! Jessica gave me some great ideas for my studio equipment that I can’t wait to try out. We were able to discuss advertising, pricing, posing, camera settings, post processing, and just about anything you could think of that would be involved in the “business” side of things. I, also, got to sit threw a viewing session. I had never thought about doing view sessions, and was amazed by how well this went! I am definitely going to be looking into adding this to my business.
I am so happy I was able to join Jessica for the day. She was AWESOME!!!! I really feel like my business will benefit from doing this mentor session. If you are a photographer looking to have a one-on-one mentor session I highly recommend Jessica!

And I apologize for that! I have been so busy with shoots and traveling I haven’t had much time to update the good old blog. I have a TON of new photos coming so be sure to check back soon for them.
I had the opportunity to meet up with a few other local OpLove photographers a few weeks ago. I am so happy I was able to make it! I loved meeting new photographers and love being able to chat about the “business” of photography. We only had time for about an hour meeting but I think we could have all sat there and chatted for hours. I hope we are able to get together again soon! Below is a lovely shot of my Shaken Black Iced Tea, I am so not a coffee drinker.

Also, see that new logo up there? Well, things will be changing again, I know I’m horrible about it, in November. My domain name for my website will expire and I want to move things to just a blog. I need a new look, so what do you think? Any advice?
